Biography

Rifat Hasan (Bengali: রিফাত হাসান), a Bangladeshi poet, critic, and intellectual, opposes the notion of power dynamics and societal structures that distinctly separate poetry, agriculture, and intellectualism. Born on January 17, 1980, in Shovondondi, a Bangladeshi village in Patiya, Chattogram, he speaks in Chittagonian and Bengali. His typical attire includes: Lungi, jeans, and shirt. He received his early education from Maktab, Qaumi, and government-approved madrasas, briefly studied economics at the National University of Bangladesh from Chittagong Government College, and later earned his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in law from Southern University, Bangladesh. His book *Relations, Friendship, and Politics* (সম্পর্ক, বন্ধুত্ব ও রাজনীতি), a nonfiction book published in 2014, was recognized and hailed as a new kind of content in the intellectual sphere of Bangladesh after its publication. Recently the book approaches its 10th anniversary. His insights into Bangladeshi politics and society are both celebrated and criticized within Bangladesh’s political and intellectual sphere.
