Shomporko, Bondhutto O Rajniti, the first published book (2014) of Rifat Hasan, comprises his notes on current politics and complicated political practices for the past several years in Bangladesh, mainly written in different social media and his personal blogs. To introduce his thought, Rifat coined the word ‘shomporko’ for a comprehensive meaning of relationship; and then he relates it with two other concepts, where, one is ‘bondhutto’ to refer it to friendship, and the other is Rajniti which stands for politics in extensive meaning. He adopts the terms from commonly used phenomena; to state his position and his aspirations to his readers, concerning Society, Politics and political conceptions for the past days and coming age. To Rifat, Shomparko, Bondutto O Rajniti is an essential idea. To proceed in discourse, Rifat opts for the essence of this idea. That is, a critical evaluation of relationship between one’s self and the other, and of friendship and politics that are experienced everyday through expression, intellectuality and aesthetics. He says, politics is the understanding of relations. It is reflected in real life through Muamilat. This is how Rifat understands Shomparko (Relation), Bondutto ( Friendship) and Rajniti (Politics). Though Rifat deals with Bangladesh and the state of politics in it, essentially the book is an effort to explore the politics of relations. In the light of this understanding, Rifat defines the state of Bangladesh, and the responsibilities of the citizens in it. So, inevitably the book comprehensively deals with the constitutional formation of Bangladesh state, power, constitution, political desire of the peoples, citizenship, violence and national interests.
